Bandlands

  December 31, 2005

We had a flood here in Marin earlier today early this past morning, nothing like Katrina but people got shook up, lost some belongings, businesses maybe ruined... San Anselmo was hit hard I am told Fairfax got hit too.

19 Broadway canceled their New Years Eve due to a localized electrical failure something short circuited. That is a tough blow to many people immediately I think of the bartenders
and waitresses but the bands too. The Monophonics, Jerry Hannan that is just a very painful disappointment.

The Monophonics are a band that I wanted to have perform at the Music in the Park Series this past summer. They were not able. They are a band of young players in the jazz funk tradition. Over the course of the year they have earned the headline spot at 19 Broadways NY Eve. Expanding their skill levels and general groovemaking abilities at every show gathering the friendly and loyal fan base.  Like their counterparts from south of the Mountain, Vinyl, they generate high energy dance grooves all without a vocalist.. purely
instrumental.

Here is a video clip from June of 2005 at a 19 Broadway show. I am sure the NYEve show would have been a great show.

Jerry Hannan formerly or maybe occasionally still with the Mad Hannans. Jerry Hannan has been a presence in the Marin Scene. Known for his 'biting' wit.. his songs are often outrageously funny but lately I have caught some of his solo shows and been surprised at a couple of really great tunes that ... seem to be serious. Another side of Jerry Hannan pretty impressive.
