Despite
getting slammed by a flood New Years Eve morning, that shocked the Ross Valley and the
towns of San Anselmo, Ross, Fairfax sending 4 foot of water
through the business area (in San Anselmo anyways maybe not quite
that high in Fairfax) and smashing up peoples homes and livelihoods.
Despite that there was music and there was happiness in a
celebration in the teeth of adversity.
First off let's correct the last entry wherein I said the show
at 19 Broadway had been canceled. The show went on. Thank you Gary
Graham the owner for getting the necessary generators humming that
night the show went on. Many stories abound of people stepping up...
Danny Uzilevsky was down at 19 Broadway with Jeff the soundman and
others at 4 Am getting the speakers and various important equipment
up off the floor.
Over at Nave's the 4th bar in Fairfax that you never hear
about because they don't have much live music. There I am told they
had the mud scraped out and the carpets steam cleaned before Noon.
Peri's seems to be pretty unscathed. The Cafe Amsterdam had a NY Eve
show that night but was closed Sunday.
After having my own adventures earlier that day I got into
town just in time to catch the
Midnight hour celebration with the Ed Early Band at Peri's then over
to Nave's Bar where Next was playing and then to 19 Broadway where
the Monophonics were in overdrive back to Peri's to close out my
night.
I am happy to say that I have pretty strong audio clips of the
great music that night. My usual mess-up cost me some great rocking
at Nave's where the band did a fine Funky 'Take Me To The River' I
wish I had that one still. The River came to us...
Here is 3 minutes of Next this band has been playing for
years lead by Derek Smith and this is one of those cases where I
just never got to enjoy them somehow the mix of covers and whatever
I always was saying Next, as I left the show. Now its ... dang! this
band Rocks sorry it took me awhile to recognize that fact guys.
Wait look at these pictures and then listen ....
