Tom Finch solid as
a rock despite the great Marin County flood of 2005 on
the last day of 2005. Tom got hit hard, his ground level recording
studio got wiped out a lot of vintage equipment lost .. some
recovered. Guitars and amps etcetera. a lot of people got hurt ...
at least financially and emotionally, lucky that no one died.
Rahman D'Amato helped put together a benefit for Tom that
took last this past Saturday Night at 19 Broadway. Original members
of the Big Brother Band joined Tom onstage early on and I really
wanted to see these guys play and I was told it was a real treat to
see Tom tear through those powerful blues-based tunes. Tom
incidentally plays some sweet blues guitar that's a nice rare treat
not always heard around here. (that being Tom playing the blues not
Blues in general)
I missed the early part of the show and that would be the
part that I most wanted to see. Sam Andrew, Dave Getz, Peter Albin
the core band the most intact of the great SF 60's rock bands.
Janis's Band, the guys never liked hearing it that way .. for they
were Big Brother and the Holding Company before Janis was introduced
by fellow Texan Chet Helms... you know the story if you don't go
here and read some of Sam Andrew's tales of that era. Tom got to
hold down the lead guitar role when James Gurley decided to retire
awhile back...
Enough about the band I missed... more another time. Come on
2006 I need a BBHC show this year! Let's bring back Janis for one
more round! Janis reincarnees please
sign up.

Tom Finch burning guitar great party on Saturday night.
Last Saturday night before I heard word about the benefit, at 19
Broadway I went down to Tom's regularly scheduled gig at Cafe
Amsterdam I brought out my DAT recorder. I have some pretty good
recordings here I think the 19 Broadway show had more energy at
least I had my camera there.
and at least I had a DAT recording of the Cafe
Amsterdam show on Saturday January 7
Sophia. This is
toward the end of the show and because of technical issues only the
first couple of minutes of this new tune by Tom, Hopenotic.
