Vikki Lee and the Pinecones are playing in the town of Dixon
up along highway 80 heading towards Sacramento its the Dixon May
Fair and the band has the headline slot on Thursday night,
May 11.
Why
am I showing you this out of date band photo? well because I can't
find a better one. Right now it would just be Vikki and Russ
Whitehead on Bass. Bill Spooner moved onto other things like the
recently mentioned Folk-Ups. Yost the drummer who had been with
Vikki for maybe 20 years is still at work as far as I know still
gigging with Kimrea down at the Sweetwater and the No Name. Bobby is
still working closely with Vikki on multiple projects but no longer
in the band.

Vikki always somehow found great sidemen for her bands
and it doesn't get much better than Albert Lee. When he is in
California he often gigs with the Pinecones when he is back in
London he plays with Hogan's Heroes and apparently his record
company Sugar Hill would rather he not work with any other
side bands and so there is a certain aura of discretion that I
have been advised to use when discussing this or playing video
on line from last Fall's gig with Albert up in Winter's
California.
When Albert can't make a show and happily also when he
does make a gig Vikki currently has the very fine guitarist
Bob Woods who played for many years with Asleep at the Wheel.
Chris Ivey on pedal steel guitar. Steve Namle on Drums and
Michael Jarrett on Keys.
The recording you are listening to was made at the
lovely Twin Oaks bar in Petaluma a couple of years back. That
was Alex Bendahan (Guinness) on guitar another great Folk-Up,
plus Yost on drums, Chris Ivey pedal steel and Bobby Wyrick
Piano. Was that Steve Valverde that night on Bass? |
