  December 31, 2006

 2006 is just about History.

The local scene... Honey Dust pushed on bringing in Scott Nickel on Bass saying goodbye to good friend Mike Weiss 'less Hippy Dippy' a bit more 'Nasty' a la ZZ Top. They rocked the Great American Music Hall in December but lost out in that big Bodog Million Dollar contract production. The Ed Early Band continued to mine that fine Blues Rock vein as well as the Rob Robinson Band both featuring the their great guitarists Ian Lamson and Felix Bannon as well as their superlative leaders with their unique great vocal styles.

Culann's Hounds is Rocking the Neighborhood hard with their devilish Celtic Rock featuring that superhot squeezebox player.. 35R still doing their Punky Swamp Rock Thang the Bad Boys keeping it rolling with sweet Louie the Butcher on drums (formerly with the Meat Puppets).

Chuck Day, the legendary one, recorded an album over the course of the year and it's still trying to get it out of the studio I am not sure what the hold up is now. It was a good year for Chuck and all the fans of straight up Rock and Roll the Burning Sensations are one hot fun band.

The WTJ Trio featuring Wendy Fitz keys, Tim Bush Bass and John "Maddog' Molloy drums are the backbone of The Burning Sensations but when they play Wendy takes the lead with great Country Jazz. (Hillbilly Swing) Wendy's singing and keyboard work has really blossomed over the past year.

Danny Uzilevsky still does his solo guitar on Tuesdays at 19 Broadway that's a powerful experience and if you haven't heard probably the best songwriter in Marin yet you should come on out and get acquainted. Darren Nelson of HoneyDust tells me that Danny's November gig at the Mystic Theatre opening for Robert Cray was very well received. Darren and Danny began collaborating on a Rock Opera in the beginning of 2006
occasionally tunes from this project are heard on Tuesdays despite it coming along later than originally planned its still coming as Danny tells me. Also some still can't forget Chrome Johnson one of the Hottest Bands around here that played their last show back in November 2004. Ben their Bass man is living in Hawaii playing with some slack string outfit...Josh was going to work on his Masters in something or other last I heard.
One of the members from this fine band fired a warning shot across the Bow of some sailing Ship. He says 'It ain't over Yet.' I don't know what possessed him to say that but I heard it myself ...just a reminder of the open nature of the Universe.

Bar Association.. Ruckus, Sweetie Pie and the Doughboys, Gail Muldrow, Tom Finch, Steve Wolf,
all the Musicians of the planet keeping it going.

In the meantime me the Guy behind this incredibly frustrating yet oh so ...tantalizing Potentially Potent... website gets ready for another round and another Round there will be!

What I loved and remember of 2006...on the Radio

 Cold Play  'Talk'

Mark Knopfler & Emmy Lou Harris/ 'This is Us'

Eric Clapton and JJ Cale 'Riding the River' from the CD 'The Road to Escondido'

Tom Waits 'The Road to Peace' from his new CD Orphans

These Artists in particular made me turn the Radio way up.

 Talk to you Next Year.
